The Mukwonago Jr. Indians Basketball Association Tryouts / Process and Philosophy
The Jr. Indians enjoy an unrivaled level of cooperation with the Mukwonago High School staff pertaining to basketball try-outs and evaluations. We typically have high school coaches in each gym during all of our try-outs. They serve as the lead coaches as well as evaluators to ensure there are "fresh" eyes involved each year. In addition to the coaches, there are usually 2 or more additional evaluators per gym. These evaluators could be Board members (never for a grade in which his son participates) and/or special invitees who have demonstrated an ability to identify youth talent, skill and/or ability. Each of evaluators has an evaluation tool with which they rate the boys on various skills and attributes. We believe one of the more important categories on our evaluation tool is the "intangibles" category. This category affords our evaluators the opportunity to make their own comments about the attributes they are witnessing during try-outs. Intangibles could include such things as hustle, coachability, leadership displayed, or any other subjective quality deemed noteworthy.
Immediately following tryouts each night the evaluators meet to compare notes. After all of the try-outs have concluded, the Board reviews the results, the evaluations from last year, and observations of the boys at summer camps and other opportunities we've had to see the boys play throughout the year (like our open gyms this summer). The final decisions are then made and communicated via this website.
We truly believe our process is second to none with regard to how hard we work on ensuring every kid in this district gets a fair and legitimate chance to make one of our teams. This is why we truly consider the Mukwonago Jr. Indians Basketball Association to be a "select" program.
***Try-outs are closed to spectators. ***
